In doing this he was more lucky than > either Harpenden or Andrassy, who were much hampered all the way up the straight and never once had sufficient elboW-room. . Inside the distance the effort of Bird of Freedom to overhaul Melton was of no avail, and dropping Back opposite the stand he gave way to Kilereene, ,who was likewise unable to reach the top. weight; 1 and he | sustained defeat by a couple of lengths.'. At the sametime Kilcreene finished three parts of a length in front of Candlemas, who was driven sharply past the post and thereby secured third money by a head from Oberop, with, Bird of Freedom close up, fifth.
