Counterfeit on the far side made the running from Martinet wide on the right. Pretty Face in the centre, and Argo Navis with Gay Hermit aud Gr y Friars in the rear on the lower ground. Coming up the hill towards the Bushes Grey Friars and Gay Hermit drew up to the others, and at the bottom of the hill the lot were in a cluster. Opposite the stand Gay Hermit drew up level with Argo Navis, who had by this time taken the place of Counterfeit as leader, aud in half a dozen strides had put the issue beyond doubt, winning in a canter, by two lengths ; a bad third. There was a delay of 20 minutes at the post, as Distiuian would not go near his horses, aud then Whitelock and Petersham became fractious. At length the flag fell, Hambletonian coming' away from Doubloon, Pearl Driver, and Craf ton, with Distinian aud Petersham on the right, and Whitelock on the left, for a furlong, when Crafton was steadied ; and at the Bushes Doubloon and Pearl Driver were the leading pair, Crafton having lost his place. Coming down the hill Pearl Driver went to the front, and in the dip was challenged by Distinian and Doubloon. The former shook them both off, and Doubloon, heading Distinian a few strides later, was beaten by three-quarters of a length, with Distinian a neck behind Doubloon. The Ivy filly made the running, followed by Charmian, on the right, Cambusmore and Melton on the left, but the leader gave way to Cbarmian on entering the rails. On rising the hill towards the Bu6hes the Ivy filly resumed the lead, and coming down the hill, where Melton was beaten, was joined by Cambusmore, the pair drawing clear of the rest, who were headed by Scotilla. In the last three hundred yards the last-named passed Cambusmore, and went up fast, but could never catch the Ivy filly, who won by a neck; three lengths between second and third. NKWMAKKET ST. Caller Herrin then came down the hill in advance of Blanchland and Pierrepout. Neither of these, however, could reach Caller Herrin, who won cleverly by a neck; three lengths separated second and third.
