John Jones cut out the work' from See-See, the pair quickly drawing out from Hauteur and Lawminßter, who were divided from them by gaps of 50 yards eaoh before rising the hill. When they came into Bight the interval was* widened as far as Lawminßter was concerned, and after Hauteur had commenced to overhaul the loaders from the mile post the top weight seemed out of the hunt. From the bottom turn, however, the pace began to slacken, and without any perceptible effort Lawminster rapidly ran np to the others, of whom John Jones had shaken off See-See, only to be' collared by Hauteur. The latter then led to the bend, when Lawminster joined issue, and, holding her safe for the remainder of the journey, won easily by half a length ; a bad third. Time, 3 mm. 18 boo. Dame Agnes on the ■ inside made play for a couple of hundred yards,* when she resigned to Royal Hampton', and the pair came on. from St. Helena in the centre and Grecian Bride on the right, with Golden Ray heading the others. These positions, were maintained until well round the bendj when Royal Hampton*, who had almost cleared Dame Agnes,-<again'iound her at his neck. Before reaching the-'diatanco St. Helena collapsed, and with Langwell now drawing from the rear rank on the -whip band be dashed out in rapid style, and got nearly a length the best of it at the commencement of the stand inclosure. - This won hiur the' race, as although Royal Hampton was catching him again at the finish, he bad sufficient advantage to win by a neck, and Golden Ray saved hia stake two lengths from the Lambourne colt. The first break was occasioned by Royal Fern, and'then with most of the others catching the infection, more than 10 minuteß had > been out to waste before Cambusmore and Superba/on the inside, jumped off in front of Sandiway, Hermitage, Somerton, Sir. Reuben; and Harvester, ''with Cormeille and The Lambkin the next two^ and Doncaster Cup last. After: the first hundred yards, from which distance The Lambkin- had been the whipper-in, these positions were soon shifted, as in the first, quartern of 'a 'mile Hermitage assumed the command .from Harvester. So they, went on from Superb, Sir Reuben, Somerton, The Lambkin, and Cormeille to the foot of the hill, when Cambusmore had dropped back to Scot Free and Sandiway, and they would have been the rearmost pair .except for Doncaster Cup, who was losing ,gTpund at every stride. In climbing the hill Bomerton drew into immediate attendance upon Hermitage, and with Loatea taking a pull at Harvester, Cormeille went on third, and Sir, John Willoughby's colt was>lso passed, by? The Lambkin and Superba. - The eeoonddivision was now 'headed by Sir' Reuben to^ the' rifle butts, where Hermitage was caught and headed in turn by Cormeilie and who separated' them from The Lambkiny-J'Sir^Reu-ben, and Superba,' a gap intervening.between this (lot and Harvester, Scot Free,' and tha Duke of Westminster's pair, who were all of a heap. At the Red House Cormeille; and Somerton hung out signals of distance,; and Hermitage having taken up the running' again, he was followed by The Lambkin to the naifmile post, with Sir Reuben and Superba'next in pursuit. To these succeeded Sandiway, Scot Free, and Oambusmore (on the outside), the last-named trio having parted company from Harvester as soon as they turned their heads homewards. Before reaching the bend ScofoFree followed Hermitage into retirement, and .when the horses came fairlyjnto full view. The Lambkin was leading well from Sir Reuben, Sandiway, and Superba, with nothing, else left in the raoe, although Queen Adelaide had threaded her way. through tbe beaten division. ,The first of the foremost quartette to crack was Sir Reuben, and although challenged in turn at the distance by Sandiwap and Superba, of whom he carried the Duke of ., Westminster 'a filly Bligbtly out of her track by bearing; to the right. The Lambkin held his own ,to. the>nd, and won, a stoutly-contested race by, a length ; three-parts of a length between second; and third. Sir Reuben was" about 10 lengths off, fourth, Queen Adelaide fifth, Hermitage, eixtb, Cambusmore seventh, Harvester eighth,-, iSoot Free ninth, Royal , Fern tenth, Cormeille eleventh, and Somerton last, except Doncaater Cup, wh" finished in the crowd, haying. been stopped inlf a mile from home.
