Archiduc showed the way with a slight lead of Loch Ranza and Royal Fern on his left, with Talisman close up next on his whip hand, and Eastern Emperor last, in the track of Loch Ranza. They ran in this order to the red post, where the Duke of Hamilton's colt was beaten, and with Eastern Emperor also in trouble, Archiduo was challenged right end left by Talisman and Royal Fern. Of these the latter was the first to crack up, and Archi- , due easily stalling off Talisman's challenge, drew away and won very easily by four lengths ; Royal Fern was third, beaten half a length from Talisman, and Eastern Emperor was last throughout. There was not much delay in getting the lot I nicely together, and though Medicus, Hack- \ ness,' Master of Arts, Glocke, Ivanhoe, Antler, Bendigo, and GiroSe" were severally and col-> ! Ipctively the means of four slight breaks away, Mr M'George's fifth attempt resulted in a iirst-rate start. Directly tbpy were fairly on ■■•he way Medicus showed in front of Goldfield md Fulmen on the right, and Petronel on the ■xtreine left, close in their wake being Haraako, The Prince, tteau Brummel, Rcok;vy, Tonans, and Primrose li, all close together, and barely cl?ar of Thebaia and [vanhoe. This order of affairs was maintained for about a couple of hundred yards, when the mt began to settle down into their places, and Rookery went to the front and made the runaing, followed by Tonans, Medicus, Antler, Bendigo Ivanhoe, Tha Prince, and Formalite, with Hamako, Beau Brummel, Thobais, Fulmen, Acrostic, and Goldfield next in tront of Eackness and Master of Arts, of whom the former Beemed never to be on good terms with herself, and thus early in the race Pinafore and Mr Pickwick were conspicuous in the year. As they came to the Red Post Rookery retired, and in her retreat was followed by A.utler, Petronel, The Prince', and Formalite. With the front rank thus thinned Tonans liseumed the command, and came on about ihree-quarters of a length in advance of Yledicus, who in turn was barely clear of Bendigo on the extreme left, while Ivanhoe, | | Acrostic, Thebais' Goldfield, and Hackness j enme next in order, and were separated from | the others by Rookery, the last four com- i : prising Beau Brummel, Petronel, Pinafore, ; and Girofle. As the Re<4 Post was left . behind them the issue became confined to still I narrower limits. Ivanhoe, Acrostic, Goldfield, and Rookery rapidly lost their places, and Tonans came on, closely attended by Medicus on his whip-hand, with Bendigo next, and Thebais, in the centre of the course, , materially improving, her position, and Hack ness struggling just behind. Soon afterwards Luke called upon Bendigo, who immediately shot away to the left, and seemingly made a direct bolt for the ring. While this was going on Medicus, having made a somewhat feeble effort to overhaul Tonans, beat a retreat, and gave place to Thebais. A very few strides, however, sufficed to show Archer how fruitless would be any endeavour to overtake Tonans, aud the mare was accordingly eased* from further pursuit. Meanwhile, though apparently more than a handful for Luke, Bendigo must have been going considerably faster than Tonans, for in running'the oblique course he did he must have lost a loL of ground, and, moreover, bo far as tho occupants of the staud were concerned, he became lost to view. Thus it appeared that Tonans had only Medicud to beat, and as ho sailed past tho post with a clear advantage of tho favourite the backers of Mr Long's horse were generally jubilant. There -were, however, a few who had not lost sight of Bendigo, and to tho3O it was no great surprise when No. 27 was hoisted on the' number board, when it was known that the outsider had won, the verdict in hiß favour being a neck only ; three lengths away from Tonana, Medicus was placed third, just clear of Hackness, who was fourth, Hamako fifth, Antler sixth, Thebais seventh, Ivanhoe eighth, Glocke ninth, Fulmen tenth. The last lot comprised Pinafore, Rookery, Primrose 11, Beau Brummel, Abbotsford, and Petronel. Time by Benson's chonoprraph. 2 mm. 7 2-sth sec. Value ol stakes, £1797. The pair jumped away simultaneously and ran side by side for a couple of hundred yarda, when St. Simon drew out about half a length. Duke of Richmond, who was on the right, coming on at his girths until entering the Abingdon Dip, when he slightly increased* his advantage, and the "Duke" being immediately beaten, the favourite was slightly eased and eventually won in a canter by threeparta of a length. A good start was effected without much delay, but before going far Talisman and Brest, on the right, showed in front of Harvester, the Adelaide filly, and Pearl powder in the centre, and Fritz on the left in front of Busybody, while -next in order came Departure's dam colt, Loch Kanza, and Spring Morn. This order was maintained until reaching the Bashes, where Brest dropped back, aud Talisman came down the hill with Adelaide 611y and Harvester clone up in the centre, and Fritz in front of Busybody on the left. As they came into the dip the Adelaide filly took up the running, and with Talisman and Harvester dropping back, Fritz was for a few stiides left iv immediate attendance upon Sir John Willoughby's filly. He, however, soon gave way to Busybody, who collared the hill in good styla, but though she challenged resolutely she could not quito reach the Adelaido filly, who won a very fine race by a neck ; two lengths divided the spcond and third. Faugh-a-Ballac-h made the running at a good pace, and soon showed eight lengths clear of Ladislas, to whom succeeded Corrie Roy and Dutch Oven, separated by intervals of bix lengths each. They ran thus until half-way across the flat, when the lot began to dose up, but Faugh a-Ballagh continued in command until the Bushes were reached, when he was joined by Corrie Roy. "Fog" was in trouble directly afterward?, and Conic Roy came into the dip about a length in front of Ladislas, but in the race out of the Abingdon Bottom the latter gradually closed with the favourite, and with Corrie Roy changing her legs in the last three or four strides the good thing was upset by a head ; three lengths separated the second and third.
