A good start was effected, but the moment the signal was given Knight Errant, on the right, rattled away to the front, and quickly held a commanding lead of Archiduc and the Adelaide filly in front of Sandiway, and Hermitage in the centre, while Talisman held a prominent position on the left. They ran thus to the corner of the plantation, where Knight Errant dropped away beaten, and Archiduc came on a length clear of the favourite in the centre, and Sandiway and Talisman on the left. The two last-named were beaten soon afterwards, and the Adelaide filly struggling on in hot pursuit of Archiduc, reached the Frenchman two strides from home, and won a very exciting race by a head ; Talisman was third, beaten three lengths from Archiduc. At the corner of the plantation Modred closed with the two leaders, but before reaching the T.Y.O winning-post he, like Kate Craig and Executrix, was in trouble, and Goggles coming to the front looked like a gallant winner until challenged half way up the hill by Geheimniss, who got up in the last few strides and won a grand race by a head ; Amy Melville waft a bad third, Wild Arab fourth, Executrix fifth, and Kate Craig last. Flandrin, in the centre, was in front for a few strides, but when they had settled down to their work Harvester made the running with a slight advantage of Superba and the Adelaide filly, Talisman coming on at the head of the others, who were whipped in by Fast and Loose. In the dip the favourite showed signs ot distress, and in rising the hill lost her place. Simultaneously with her trouble, Superba, in the centre, and Talisman, on the right, challenged Harvester, on the left ; and whereas Talisman failed to sustain his effort, superior condition told its tale in favour of Superba, who reached Harvester on the brow of the hill, and won very cleverly by half a length ; a similar distance separated the second ancl third.
