Within a few minutes of the time Bet the thirty -two competitors reached the poßt, but the start was delayed some time, occasioned by the fractiousness of Sportsman, and the repeated breaking away of several of the light weights, while Peter, contrary to expectation, behaved fairly w.U. At length the flag was lowered at the third attempt to an admirable start, in which the lot got away upon equal terms ; but when they had fairly settled into their places the running was taken np by Piiißus, in the centre of the cross, clear of Prome'thaa, Montrose, Knight of Athol, and Corria Boy on the left, while prominent on the right wer*> seen the taking colours of Lucy Glitters, Elizabeth, Shinglass, Tristan, Muriel, Eicildouuo, and Scobell in a body, to whom succeedo;), at an interval of some three or four lengths, Poulefc, Philammon, Petronel, Post Obit, Prestonpans, and the favourite and Toaslmaater, the two latter being on the old Shepherd's track next the rails on the upper ground, with the remainder following at wide intervals, headed by Peter, upon whom Wood selected *ho lower ground as being the least likely of ihterrupiion, with Etona 11. and Mißtake acting as whippers-in, both of whom wore tailed of before reaching the New Stand. After pausing thin landmark, the first to exhibit the effict of the severity of the pace were Elizabeth, Knight of Athol, Scobell, and Piroa>o\ha^ who dropped back as they nearod the haK-milo post. At; the same time Lucy Glitters, in company with Come Roy, ran up to Pitseun, whom they deprived of the lead in the next h&lf-Jczen strides, and tho pair came on in company to the side of £he oid duke's stand, wbeiethey were joined by Tristan, Foxhall, kicenriiary, Bead Or, Muriel, And Poulot, who came oa clear of Toautmasler, Montrose, Post Obifc, and Philammon nearly abreast, and in which order they came over the mil to the Bed Post. Here Lucy Glitters somewhat in. creased her lead and came on with a two lengths' lead of Foxhall next the rails, Tristan, Incendiary, and Poulet ; at the sjaine time Come Boy, Montroße, Pater, Poßt Obit, and Patronel were sec-n in difficulties and dropping into the rear. They had no sooner entered the rails than Trißtan became aecond, with Foxuall and Poulet, aide by aide, next, to whom succeeded

Bend Or, Prestonpans, Toastmaster, and Philammon in a body to half-way up. Here the weight on Bend Or began to tell its tale, and he was immediately eased by Archer, which example was followed by Webb on Philammon ; and, Prestonyana having previously died away with Toastmaster and Montrose, the race waa left to the first three and Poulet, and in which order they came on to the distance, where Foxhall. again headed Tristan and closed with MrPerkins' filly, who upon being challenged! swerved from the whip, and in bo doing Badly hampered TcistaD, who at the same moment? mads hio effort, and in consequence was placed hors de combat. This contretemps enabled Foxhall, who had been racing a long way in trouble, to take a slight lead, which, under able handling of Wattp, he retained to the end, and won & fine race by a hoad from Lucy Glitters, who defeated Tristan by a neck for second money ; at an interval of four or five lengths Poulet, pulling up, was fourth ; Incendiary fifth, and Piraeus sixth. To these succeeded at wide intervals Bend Or, Toaotmaster, Philammon, Prestonpans, Falkirk, Corrie Roy, and Lord Rosebery's pair in the order we have given them. Time, 2 mm. 15 2*sths sec. Betting 2 to 1 on Dutch Oven, 6 to 1 agst Marden, and 7 to 1 agst Maritornes.

They ran in a line for a few strides, when Maritornes drew away and gradually obtained a clear lead, Bonaparte, on her left, going on second with a slight advantage of Marden, who had a berth to himself wide on the right, while Dutch Oven followod in the track of Hautboy on the left. As they descended into the Abingdon Bottom, Maritornes came back to her horses, and in the Dip she was beaten, as was Hautboy, and Marden was left with a slight advantage of Bonaparte, who was immediately in trouble, and Dutch Oven came through and joiued Marden, who had a Blight advantage half-way np the hill ; but Dutch Oven wore him down, and at the finish won cleverly by a head— a long one; Bonaparte was third, two lengths off, Maritornes beaten some lengths, and Hautboy a long way last. Exeter forced the running on the right from. Mistake and Corrie Roy, and wide on their left, came Chippendale, Peter, and Muriel. In< these positions they came across the flab; but,, on reaching the T.Y.C. ending post, Chippendale closed -with the leaders, who came om nearly abreast to the Bashes. Here Exeter gave way, followed half-way down the hill by Mistake, thus leaving Corrie R)y with a sligbfc advantage of Pater, the pair racing for the lead into tho ruiln, where he obtained a slight lead, but Mr Crawford's filly, running with great gameness, resumed her lead a hundred yards from home, and won a splendid race by a head ; three lengths between second and third, Mistake fourth, Chippendale fifth, and Muriel, laat.
