The Duke of Westminster's colt Bend Or was backed for next year's Derby at 700 to 100, after winning the Prince of Wales Stakes at York. The English sporting journals generally gave bad tips for the St. Leger, but Land and Water went for Bayon dOr, and the Illustrated Sporting and Dramatic News fancied Ruperra and Count Lagrange's best, -irbo ran Becond and first respectively. { Mr Lorillard has sent Duke of Magenta and TTncas back to America, the former naving turned ••roarer?' and the latter not worth training. Kincsem wen her fifty-first race on September 2nd in the Grand Prize at BadenBaden, and has never yet been defeated. At Warwick, the Leamington Handicap was won by Mr W. Baine's colt Oxford and Her Majesty's Plate by Mr T. Jennings' Paul's Cray. At Kiohmond, her Majesty's Plate of ,200 guineas was carried off by Mrs C. Perkins' Hoehampton. The Derbyshire Plate of 300 soys, at the Derby meeting, was won by Mr W. Raine's b c Bay Cardinal, by Cardinal York— Adonia, 3 yrs, 6st 91b, beating 11 others. He Hartington Handicap of 500 soys fell to Mr J. Payton's br h Zanoni, by Rosiornolan — Bathilde, 4 yrs, Bst 31b, in a field of 18. The grand Frenoh horse Verreuil, by Mortemer — Reglia, has been pnrchtsed from Ceunt de Lagrange for the Hungarian Go Ternment for 800 gaineis. Up to September sth F. Archer had won 130 races out of 361, T. Cannon 57 out of Sls, E. Ward 52 out of 281, Constable 45 ont of 181, >H. Luke 37 out of 211, G. Fordham 34 ont of 153. Fagan 34 out of 170, J. .Goater 33 out of 165.

A horse belonging to » Mr Silversides, of York, whilst attempting to cover a distance of 84 miles in 11 hours, fer a wager of £40, "" dropped dead after compassing 80 miles. The Doncaster Welter Handicap of 200 soys, was won by Col. Brady's Melton, lOst _21b; the Cleveland Handicap by Mr W. S. Crawford's Lancastrian, by ToxophoUte — Liverpool's dam, 3 yrs. Bst 51b; the Bradgate 'Park Stakes, by Mr J. T. Best's Pater, by Hermit — Lady Masham ; and Her Majesty's Plate ef 200 guineas, w.f.a., by Lord Hartington's mare Bylstone, by Hermit — Esther's dam. Concerning the races given in full it will be seen that the American filly Geraldine sustained another defeat in the Champagne Stakes ; and that in the Great Yorkshire Handicap, Parole,|though second favourite, again showed very badly, finishing actually last. Dresden China immediately after winning was rushed upon for the CiSßarewitch Stakes, for which, although carrying a 101b penalty, she ran third. She was bought by Mr Perkins for SOOO guineas the day before the Great Yorkshire .was rnn. (Chippendale, who was fceates in this race, when giving the filly 181b», turned the tables on her in the Cseaarewitch, la which he had to give her only 41b.) The St. Leger was run on the new course for the first time, and it proved a good thing for the French horse, who cut cut his own running the whole way, and won in a canter. Sir Bevya, the Derby winner, was nowhere, and the high-priced Marshal Scott broke down. So little did Lord Falmouth estimate lis show with Muley Edris, that he gave F. Archer up to Lord Rosebery, so that he might ride Viaconti. The Filly Stakes was a great upset, the Duke of Westminster's grand filly Donrance being unexpectedly defeated by an outsider, in tha Jenny Driver filly. Mr P. Lorillard has purchased from Mr J. W. Hunt Reynolds the bay colt Falsetto, by Enquirer — Farfaletto, by Australian, three years old, the winner of the Travel's and Uenner Stakes at Saratoga, for the sum of 18,000 dollars. It is reported that Mr liorillord intends sending Falsetto over to England to join Parole and the other "good ones" he has there. The New York Herald aays : — " This fine colt will be a great acquisition to Mr Lorillard's string, and, should lie be as fortunate as Parole was in the foggy and cloudy climate of England, he will be able to win many a race for his owner."
