The Labor Department intends to bring a case to test the right of chemists who sell tea and tea tabloids to keep open on Wednesday afternoons. The boating season was opened this afternoon by the Governor, bub owing to a nasty chopping sea which prevailed the usual procession of boats had to bo curtailed, as the lighter class of craft could not be brought into requisition. Mr John Liilie Gillies, Secretary to the Harbor Board, died this morning Ho had been Provincial Treasurer, and was also Speaker of the Provincial Council. CHRISTCHURCH. September 26. The Canterbury Crickec Association on Saturday decided to recommend the New Zealand Cricket Council to arrange the North and South Island match. At the Canterbury horse parade on Saturday 63 horses paraded. There was a good show of colonial draughts. Roadsters and carriage horses were very mixed. Only two horses wero sold —Young Champion, a draught, at 200gs, to Mr Gv H. Holmes, Stanmore ; and a trotting stallion at 15gs to Mr A. Bailey. AUCKLAND. September 2b.
