THE DANZIG ISSUE READINESS FOR WAR POSSIBILITY OF COUP By Telegrnph—Press Association —Copyright (Received May 14, 5.5 p.m.) LONDON, May 13 An official communique issued in Warsaw says any attempt to alter the present state of affairs in Danzig will result in immediate action by the Polish military forces, which are at. present in readiness for war. The communique was issued owing to reports from Danzig that the Nazis were hopeful Poland would remain inactive if a "putsch" were staged.

The. official German news agency describes the speeches of Mr. Chamberlain and M. Daladier as bombastic imputations to deceive the world concerning the danger of the encirclement policy.

Semi-official circles in answer to Mr. Chamberlain say that Danzig is not a question between Germany and Poland, but purely a German issue.

The report published in the Asahi Shimbun that Japan recently ofFered to mediate in the Polo-German dispute over Danzig is officially denied, but the Tokio correspondent of the Times says that, in spite of the denial, the substantial accuracy of the report cannot be doubted.

The Japanese informed Poland and Germany that Japan would be happy to use her good offices in alleviating the tension. This action follows the windows of a Polish library being broken and Marshal Pilsudski's portrait being damaged.
