AN IMPORTANT WORK. CEREMONY AT OTOROHANGA. TUT IELEGBArH—OWX CORRESPONDENT.] Otorohaxga, Tuesday. Tht ceremony of opening the Waipa Bridge on the To Kawa Road was performed to-day by the Hon. VV. H. Hemes. There was ao attendance of nearly three hundred. The Ministerial party arrived at 1-50 p.m., and was entertained 'by the County Council and settlers. The Minister received a deputation from Otorohanga. about the erection of a station verandah and a cream shed, and the public making use of express trains when they stop at Otorohanga to cross. The Minister promised that the requests would be considered. The Minister, who was introduced to the gathering by Mr. A. Scholes, chairman of the Waitomo County Council, said that lie was impressed with the quality of the land. He referred to the importance of the bridge on the main west and east road, across the Waikato, and connecting the King Country west of Whakatane with Kawhia. He was sure it would be the means of increasing the railway revenue and alleviate one great hardship of the settlers. Mrs. George Kay. wife of the district's pioneer settler, cut the ribbon, and Mr. Herries declared the bridge open. Mr. W. T. Jennings, member for Taumarunui. and Mr. C. K. Wilson, congratulated the district on the accomplishment of the work. The bridge is 340 ft long, and its height above the stream is 40ft. It is built on iron bark piles.
