SPORTING INTELLIGENCE.

York Spring Meeting. — The great national match for 1,000 soys. between Lord Eglinton's Flying Dutchman (Marlow), and Lord Zetland's Voltigeur, (Flatman), came off with brilliant success on the 13th May. The race is thus spoken of in the Illustrated London News of the 17th of May :— " Even betting ; Voltigeur taking the lead of three clear lengths, made the running at a good pace for such heavy ground, the Dutchman never attempting to go up until round the last turn. He then drew up, was within a length at the gravel road, had his head first half way up tbe distance, and finally won, amidst the most enthusiastic cheers, by a length — run in 3m. 555. At the dose of the match Lord Eglinton declared that as the match was a fair trial of merit, Flying Dutchman would not start again. At the same meet the Champion Handicap was won by Lord Glasgow's Knight of the Garter. On the following day, the York and Amstey Hunt Cup was won by Mr. Martinson's Nancy, beating Lord Zetland's Voltigeur. The racing turned out remarkably good, and was rendered peculiarly interesting by the second defeat of Voltigeur. Epsom Races. — These races commenced on the 20th of May, and were well and fashion* ably attended. The Derby was won by Sir J. Hawley's Teddington (J. Marson), Malborough Buck second, Neasham third, Hernander fourth, and twenty, nine others not placed. Betting 3 to 1 against Teddington at starting. Won in a canter by two lengths in 2 mm. 51 sec. The Oaks was won by Lord Stanley, Iris (Butler), Miserrima second, Hesse Homburg third, Payment fourth ; eleven others started but were not placed. Breba, the favourite, was early thrown out of tbe race. Ascot. — The Queens Gold Vase was won by Mr. Greville's Cariboo, 4 yrs. 9st. 4lbs. (Flatman), little Jack second, Prime Minister third, and four others not placed. Won by a neck in 3 mm. 42 sec. Prime Minister was the favourite at starting. The Emperor's Plate was won by Mr. Campbell's Woolwich (J. Marson), beating Little Jack, Trouncer, Windischgratz.
