DESTRUCTIVE FIRE AT MOTUEKA.

TWO SHOPS DESTROYED. - . (From Our. Own Correspondent.) - JfOTUEKA, Thursday. At 1.30 .this' morning the residents of High-street were roused • from their slumbers by the cry of "Fire" raised by Mr E.Franklyn, hairdresser, whose premires adjoined those of Mr Frank Hargreaves, painter-' and paperhanger, which had taken fire near the centre of the building. By the time the first two or three -people got to the scene the place was fully ablaze, and. eiforts were concentrated on saving Mr W. A. Coppin's residence and stock of saddlery and Mr; Franklyn's shop. A good deal of Mr Coppin's stock was saved, but the shop; • together, with Mr Hargteave'd shop and: stock, was totally destroyed. Fortunately no wind was blowing, and Mr Coppin's house and furniture, and the .hairdresser's shop were sav§d by the bucket brigade. Mrs Cpppins and her infant daughter (some 24rnour,s old) were removed to Mr F. -G.-JJatchelor's residence, where everything' was done for them, but Mrs Coppiris^ suffered from-" the shock and excitement. Latest reports state that she is now doing well. Mr Hargreaves' stock is- insured for J&300 in the New Zealand office .and the building, owned by Mr E.» A. \Knapp, in the same office for £100. Mr Coppins' stock and building are in the New Zealand office, £50 on building and £160 on "stock; and the Alliance has £200 on the stock. It is understood that the shop and dwelling occupied by Mr A. Wet and owned by Mr Knapp was slightly damaged, and that the dwelling occupied by Mr Pinneyxalso suffered slightly. The New Zealand office. hasv a fine of &100 on the former building. ."
