Captain Collins (Harbour Master and Pilot), accompanied by Mr Barrowtman (Engineer to the Harbour Board), Mr McHarg (Dredgiemaster), and Mr Graham (Chairman of tho Nelson Harbour Board), visited the new entrance and made soundings of the work done throughout its whole course. Mr Graham has expressed himself gratified with the result of the soundings, and -declares that his most sanguine expectations havo been exceeded. Barring any unforeseen contingency arising, the Harbour Bpard will very shortly be able to give o, practical demonstration that the work at tho newentrance is entirely Satisfactory. It is of interest to record ftat on Saturday morning, Captain Collins asked Mr Graham if the 'biartqiue Onyx, which was to be taken out of the -harbour that day. could too piloted through the new entrance, as it would be an easier job than negotiating the old entrance. Tlie Chairman of the Board, though ho would havo 'bad great uleasurc in doing so, could not accede to the Pilot's rdquest, probably because at present traffic is likely to interfere with the dredge lines, etc.
