Mr H. T. B. Drew, Government Publicity Officer, and Mrs Drew are spending' the holidays in Whangarei. Mr- F. S.; Pope, Assistant DirectorGeneral of Agriculture, is at present the guest of his daughter, Mrs J. W. Bull, in Whangarei. The death occurred at Hamilton yesterday of Mr John Livingstone of Maunu. The deceased gentleman went to Hamilton on business about three weeks ago, and was taken suddenly ill. Mr R. H. Hooper, editor of the publications isued by the Department of Agriculture, arrived. in Whangarci this morning and will be in the district for <i few days. 1 Mr F. S. Patterson, H.D.A., Instiuctor in Agriculture, paid a visit to the Puwera experimental farm this morning. Messrs Hooper and Patterson are making a second visit this afternoon. Master Noel Crawford, third son of Mr. and Mrs. H. W. Crawford, whilo playing on a trolley at Reotalii met with a painful accident on Boxing Day. The trolley on which he was rifting down the hill crashed into a stationary one on the wharf, the impact crushing the flesh off his right leg below the knee. No- bones were broken. Campers at Reotalii were exceedingly kind au<d assisted in making the child comfortable for the time being. He was then taken to Whangarci in Mr. C. Reyburn's launch and transferred to the Public Hospital, where the wounded leg was immediately dressed and stitched. The litrle chap is making good progress. A sad occurence took place at the Whangarci Hospital last night, when Mrs Brown, wife of Mr. G. H. Brown, of Walton Street, passed away, at the comparatively early ape of 41 years. The deceased lady had been ill for some four- months, suffering heart trouble and bronchitis, and on Sunday lapsed into an unconscious condition; from which she never rallied. Mrs Brown was a native of the North, but with her husband had resided for some years at Otahuhu, the last 15 years, however, having been spent in Whangarci. . The deceased 1 leaves a husband and, one son and ono daughter. The funeral leaves her late residence for the Kioreroa cemetery to-morrow at 2.30 p.m The death occurred at Christchurch on Tuesday of Mr A. E. G. Rhodes, a well-known citizen. Born in South Canterbury is 1859, Mr Rhodes was educated at Christ's College, where he captained the football and cricket teams. He took his B.A. and LL.B. at Cambridge, and was called to the Bar at the Inner Temple. He was Mayor of Christchurch at the time of the visit of the present King and Queen, and for many years he took an active part in the affairs of the city, and lie had big commercial interests, being for , some year 1 --, chairman of the New Zealand Shipping Company and of the Christchurch Press Company.
