'An energetic committee of Linkwater ladies organised a social and ■competition evening in the Mahakipawa Hall on the 17th August to . raise funds to enable them to send -each soldier enlisting or having his '.home in the district a special .Christ-- ■ mars parcel. The sum of £15 4s 3d • was taken, which shows the patriotism of the, residents of the valley from which 25 men have enlisted Of that number three have fallen in battle, 3 have returned, and 19 remain on active service.
