MARLBOROUGH FREEZING WORKS.
— , ♦ PURCHASE OF LAND. Thb Ohristohuroh Meat Company, which recently acquired the business. of the Wauau Freezing Company, has purchased about 250 acres of land m the vicinity of the Pioton township, with a view of setting up its local establish meat thereon. TLe area taken over principally comprises the whole of what is known as the Kaipupu Peninsula, whioh forms the western shore of the Picton Harbor. It includes three blocks of land, the one at the point of the peninsula being bought from Judge Conolly, the other two from Mr 0. Y. Fell, of Nelson. The property is for the most part a rather rough ridge, rising at the point of the peninsula to about five hundred feet. In the centre, where there is a "neok," there is some fairly flat land, and, it is there that the Company proposes to ereot its Works. The rest of the property, whioh is to be improved by clearing, is to be used for grazing the sheep purchased for the Works. We understand that it is the intention of the Company to establish complete Works at this locality, thus removing the business from Spring Creek. A wharf is to be built into the Pioton Harbor. While being futther away from the Wairau district,, the Works may be expected to give an impetus to the obeep-grow-ing industry m the Sounds. It is even suggested that the Works m that position will' serve the interssts of Kelson sheep-farmers. .
