Campbell, J. Tindall, and D. Maxwell. The show of hands was in favor of Jackson. NAPIER, September 17. For Hawke's Bay, Captain Russell aad Arthur Desmond were nominated. A large Dumber of hands, were held up for Capt. Russell, and noue for Desmond, who aekeil his supporters not to hold up their hands. Nine-tenths of those present, however, voted for Capt. Russell. A poll was demanded. CHRISTCHURCH, September 16. At nominations for Christchurch 1 North, the fehow of hands for Sir Julius Vogel was 45 ; Roberts, 15. The latter demanded a poll. For Clmstchurcb Soutb, W. B. Percival, A. Ayers, H. Thomson, and E. George, were nominated. The .show of bands was largely in favor of Percival. For Avon tha show of hands for E. G. The show, of hands was in favor of Steward. ■ Some difference of opinion wae raised in regard to whether' tbe polling closed in the Waimate borough at 7 and other places at 6 o'clock. Ultimately the registrar declared the whole ot the polling places to be open till seven throughout the electoral district. BLENHEIM, September 16. The nominations for Wairau were H. Dobson, D. Nominations for Awarua — J. W. Bain, G. Troggatt, and J. G. Ward. Tke show of hands was in favor of Ward. Passing of the Harbor' Bill. The following appears in the Taranaki Herald of Friday evening — TO THE EDITOR. Sir,— When Mr. McGuire was addressing the electors in Opuuake be stated tbat in the Provincial Council he had opposed and voted against tbe first, the second, and tbe third reading of the New Plymouth Harbor Bill. Major Atkinson stated last night tbat this is utterly false, and that Mr. McGuire only voted against the first resolution when the matter was in Committee, and that subsequently Mr. MeGuire did not appear in connection with, or oppose in any way tbe passing of the bill. Major Atkinson kindly offered to pay the expenses of anyone who would, go to New Plymouth and search the old Provincial records, and offered . to retire from the contest if Mr. McGuire's statement were proved correct or his own false. As no one here is in a position to accept the Major's offer, it has been suggested that you, sir, should be asked to be kind enough to publish the action which was taken by Mr. MeGuire with regard to this bill in the Provincial Council. Much interest is taken in the matter, and your doing so will oblige a large number of electors in this con-stituency.—-I am, &c, Donald McGregor. [Major Atkinson is quite right with regard to the passing of the New Plymouth Harbor Bill. There is no record in either of the papers published at the time of the Patea members showing any opposition.
