Shortly before the time appointed, the nineteen runners were weighed out, and, their toilettes having been completed, in due course they emerged from the saddling paddock, headed by Lord Rosebory's pair. After parading past the prince's stand, their preliminary canters were indulged in, and in these Mariner exhibited his usual temper. The lot afterwards wended their way to the starting post, and were speedily got into position. Mr M 'George was enabled to lower his flag at the first attempt, and at 3.19 the race commenced. After going a few strides Boreas, Bend Or, Valentino, Robert the Devil, Cylinder, and the Hetty colt showed in advance for about two hundred yards, when Boreas, on the outside, settled down with the lead, clear of Robert the Devil, Death or Glory, aDd Valentino, the favorite being pulled back into the second division. In this order they reached the City and Suburban starting post, when Death or Glory drew to the front, and was followed by Fire King, the Hetty colt, Boreas, liobort the Devil, with Draycott at the head of the nest division, prominent among which were the colors of Valentino, Mask, and Cylinder, with Teviotdale, Apollo, and Von der Tann bringing up the rear, whipped in by Proctor. At the commencement of the furze Robert the Dovil came through his horses, and assumed the command, clear of Boreas, Valentino, and Cylinder, with Mask next, just in front of Von der Tann, Draycott, and Teviotdale, whilst Muncaster and the favorite separated this' lot from Mariner, Zealot, Fire King, and Ercildoune. In this order they entered the old course, but they had no sooner commenced the descent of the hill than Von der Tann becanie second, the pair being followed by Teviotdale and Mask, with Mariner and Bend Or next, in advance of Draycott, Zealot, and Apollo, with the remainder beginning to exhibit the effects of the pace. They ran thus down the hill, the leaders having closed up, and on rounding Tattenhatn Corner Robert the Devil, on the lower ground, was followed by Von der Tann, Teviotdale, Draycott, and Mask, with Eend Or, Mariner, Apollo, and Ercildouno in a body next. The favorite hero made an attempt to get through, but was disappointed, and in the melee he twisted tho plate of his off fore foot, and had to come round his horses. Crossing the road, Mariner's companion was beaten, and, with Teviotdale, and Von der Tann in trouble Mask drew into second place, closely followed on his "whip-hand by Bend Or and Apollo, with Draycott and Zealot at the head of the others. On reaching the Bell, Mask was beaten, and was immediately headed by Bend Or, who came on hand over hand in pursuit of the leader, and won by a head, after one of the most exciting finishes seen for suiue years, and which was watched by the on-lookers with breathless silence, only relieved fey the appearance of No. 7 on the board. Mask was third, some half dozen lengths in the rear. Apollo was fourth, Zealot fifth, Draycott sixth, Von dor Tann seventh, Mariner eighth, Muncaster ninth, and Proctor and Cylinder next. The last four were the Hetty colt, Death or Glory, Pelleas, and Veleutino. Time — 2min. 48secs. Feiday, May 28th. They quitted the paddock for the post some fow minutes past the hour, but the start was delayed by the breaking away of Mirth and The Song ; but the pair woro speedily brought back, and at 3.24 the signal was lowered, and the race commenced with Bonnie Marden taking a slight lead of her stable companion Jenny Howlott, the pair baing clear of Grey Hen, Mirth, and Fire Queen, at whoso heols came Evasion, Eastern Princess, Mereny, and Vorsignj in a body, with the Pong and Queenfishei in the rear. Passing: through tho furzes Fire Queen, with Evasion on the rightran up to the leaders, and on re-appearing in sight Fire Queen was seen clear o Evasion, Bonnie Marden, and Jennj

Howlct, with Versiony drawing up ; when fairly in the old course tho Jattt-.r passed tho two north-conntryfillioa, and took her place at tue quarters of Evasion, tho two favorite* being clear as they commenced tho descent of tho hill, but half-way down Voraigay lost hor place, and was at once out of the race. On rounding Tattenham Corner Jenny Howlet became second, with Bonnie Harden at her qiv . tors, to whom succeeded Eastern Princess, Qnoonfisher, Mereny, Grey Hen, nnd War PTorn in a cluster, but When fairly in a lino for home Evasion W'is beaten ; at the same time Jenny Howlet drew clear of her followers, and coming on, won in a canter by four lengths from Bomno Harden, who finished a head in advance of War Horn ; Qneenfiaher fourth, Evasion fifth, Novice sixth, The Song seventh, Fire Queen eighth, and Veroigny next.
