A HINT TO THE POLICE.
10 THB EDITOR. Sir, —I have occasion every evening to go down Cumberland street by the overbridge, and it is a pity our police could not visit that locality regularly too, as the brutal fights that go on and obscene language that is used are enough to make a decent man's hair stand on end. Last night I arrived just after a fight, and one of the pugilists was cut and knocked about in a shocking manner. I endeavored to find out the names of the two yonng men. If I had done so I would have handed them tothe police, so that these men could have been made an example of. The young man who was so brutally knocked about told me. that he was set on by the other while going quietly along the street.—l am, etc., , J. Williams. Dunedin, October 20.
