Removal Of Controls It was stated officially today that most of the remaining controls over factory materials would be removed almost immediately, although there would remain a few controls over Certain goods, such as rubber, bicycle tyres, and kapok, supplies of which are dependent entirely upon overseas stocks. It is expected that the position regarding overseas supplies will be clarified within the next few weeks, as replies are received to inquires from the Ministry of Supply. (Mr. Fraser). and the Leader of the Opposition (Mr. Holland), a short address will be given by the Hon. E. T. Tirikatene, M.P., member of the Executive Council representing the Maori race, and Mr. C. O. Bell. Dominion vice-president of the New Zealand Returned Services' Association. THE BELLS OF VICTORY . Special recitals were given on the National War Memorial Carillon, Buckle Street, at noon and 3 p.m., and a further programme will be played tonight commencing at seven 0 clock. Sets of changes were also played every hour from 1 p.m. onwards. Tomorrow recitals will be given at noon, 3 p.m., and 7 p.m., and changes will be rung hourly from 9 a.m. onwards. BANDS' DAY OUT Today is a real day out for Wellington's pipe and brass bands, more than a dozen taking part in the-cele-brations, which would not be complete without the stirring music so appropriate to the occasion and to lead the crowds in popular and martial singing. Trentham Camp Band set the ball rolling by striking up in Lambton Quay within 10 minutes of the momentous announcement at 11 o'clock this morning. r Within a couple of hours other bands had assembled and were performing at various points in the city. Victoi-y Corner, the Manners Street Reserve, Willis Street,' and Courtenay Place were the main "bandstands," with punctuation by marching through the main streets. The Caledonian, Police, and Wellington Regiment Pipe Bands were popular with the crowds, but no more so than the wind instruments of the Wellington Regiment, Tramways, Boys' Institute, and Watersiders' Bands, all of whom are members of the Wellington Bands Association. In addition there were two Salvation Army Bands —the City and Wellington South—and the Air Force Band. Notwithstanding the cold southerly drizzle, the bands made the most of the occasion. . : » SHIPPING ALTERATIONS The s.s. Arahura, which was to have sailed for Picton at 1 p.m., will now leave at midnight. The Rangatira will sail for Lyttelton at the usual time, 7.30 p.m. The Wingatui will sail for Westport at midnight on Thursday, and the Karu will not leave for Westport until Friday. These are the only alterations to the Union Company's arrangements. The Matangi is to make an extra sailing to Nelson on Friday. She is expected here from Nelson early on Friday morning and will then depart with passengers' for Nelson at 8.30 a.m. She will not carry cargo either tomorrow or on the special trip on Friday. She will arrive here from Nelson on Saturday morning, and the normal service will then operate. COMPANY REGISTRATIONS.
