BANDS' DAY OUT Today is a real day out for Wellington's pipe and brass bands, more than a dozen taking part in the-cele-brations, which would not be complete without the stirring music so appropriate to the occasion and to lead the crowds in popular and martial singing. Trentham Camp Band set the ball rolling by striking up in Lambton Quay within 10 minutes of the momentous announcement at 11 o'clock this morning. r Within a couple of hours other bands had assembled and were performing at various points in the city. Victoi-y Corner, the Manners Street Reserve, Willis Street,' and Courtenay Place were the main "bandstands," with punctuation by marching through the main streets. The Caledonian, Police, and Wellington Regiment Pipe Bands were popular with the crowds, but no more so than the wind instruments of the Wellington Regiment, Tramways, Boys' Institute, and Watersiders' Bands, all of whom are members of the Wellington Bands Association. In addition there were two Salvation Army Bands —the City and Wellington South—and the Air Force Band. Notwithstanding the cold southerly drizzle, the bands made the most of the occasion. . : » SHIPPING ALTERATIONS The s.s.
