WIN FOR COURT MARTIAL

The second of the English classic races • the Two Thousand Guineas, was run at Newmarket today and resulted: — TWO THOUSAND GUINEAS, a sweepstake of £100 with 2000 guineas added- three-year-old colts and fillies, 9.0; fillies 8.9; 1 mile. Lord Astors eh.c. Court Martial, by Fair Trial —Instantaneous, by Hurry on, 9.0 1 Sir E. Ohlson's br.c. Dante, by Nearco —Rosy Legend, 9.0 2 Sir John Jarvis's eh.c. Royal .Charger, by Nearco—Sun .Princess, 9.0 '• • 3 Forty started. Won by a neck, with two lengths between second and third. Time, 1.40.
Although owing to war conditions details of his career as a two-year-old are incomplete, Court Martial won the Burghfield Stakes at Ascot last season by half a length' from Elysium, with Qtteen Christina, three lengths away. He was bred at the Cliveden Stud, and is trained by J. Lawson at Manton. Dante, the runner-up, was rated as the best of the two-year-olds to race last season, being placed lib ahead of Court Martial in the Free Handicap, but Major Long rated him at 71b the better.—"Binocular."
