AIRMAN'S DEATH

SEQUEL TO COLLISION

P.A. AUCKLAND, August 18. A verdict that death -was the result of injuries received when he had left a fighter plane by parachute following an accidental collision with another plane was returned by Mr. F. K. Hunt, Coroner, when he, concluded an inquest concerning the death of Sergeant Pilot John Gault Dickie, aged 23, a member of the Royal New Zealand Air Force.

It was disclosed that on Sunday morning, July 25, four fighter aircraft were flying in formation at about 16,000 feet when the machine piloted by , Dickie collided with a machine piloted' by Flying Officer J. H. Mills. Both pilots bailed out, Mills landing safely.Dickie was found to be dead when he landed in a paddock at Pakuranga. He had ysustained lacerations to the head and: right shoulder, these injuries apparently having been inflicted after' the" collision. .A confidential report of the court of inquiry held by the Air Force, to- i gether with the findings, was produced for the Coroner's information. • The deceased's mother lives * at - Waverley.
