FOLK DANCE AND SONG

SOCIETY

The Wellington centre of the New Zealand branch of the English Folk Dance and Song Society held an end-of-term party recently, when members had the pleasure of inviting their friends to an evening of folk dancing and song.

There was a large number present, but room was found on the floor for everyone to join in the dances, where the swirling brightly-coloured costumes of the folk dancers intermingled amid the joyous "reels" and "sets."

Demonstration dances were performed by advanced members, and a sword dance by women members under the leadership of Miss Gleed. Other bright interludes included a jig by Mr Fred Hay and "London Cried" by members.

No English folk dance party is complete without the "pipers," and these were present, and led by Miss HaddonJones. A buffoon was also present with his prancing horse.

Miss Hilda Taylor (centre teacher) and Mrs. Howard Cook (pianist) were thanked for their efforts in ensuring such an enjoyable "party."
