FIRST OFFICIAL LIST
THREE MISSING, ONE
WOUNDED
The following casualties have been sustained by New Zealand Naval personnel serving in the Royal Navy:—
Charles Warren Whykes, Ordinary Seaman, R.N.V.R. (N.Z.), missing, believed killed in H.M. Trawler Drummer. His father is Mr. William Herbert Whykes, 36 Hardwicke Street, Sumner, Christchurch.
Douglas Ross Mills, Able Seaman, R.N.V.R. (N.Z.), missing, believed killed in H.M. Trawler Oswaldian. His father is Mr. Harry J. Mills, 43 Uplands Road, Remuera, Auckland.
Peter Thomas Wass, Ordinary Seaman, R.N.V.R. (N.Z.), missing, believed killed in H.M. Trawler Oswaldian. His father is Mr. Thomas Wass, 10 Upton Street, Herne Bay, Auckland.
William George Perry, Able Seaman, R.N.V.R. (N.Z.), wounded in H.M. Trawler Drummer. His mother is Mrs. Mary Perry, 276 Waterloo Road, Lower Hutt, Wellington.
These are the first war casualties to be sustained by the New Zealand Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve.
A Press Association message from Christchurch says that Ordinary Seaman Whykes was 21 years of age and left New Zealand last February for service in the Royal Navy. He was a prominent cricketer, footballer, amateur wrestler, and runner at Sumner, where he was educated at the District High School.
