RETURN TO LONDON

THE FOREIGN SECRETARY

I LONDON, August 19. The Foreign Secretary. Lord Halifax, I today returned to London in order to prepare a report for next week's meeting of Ministers, when the international situation will be reviewed. The Polish Commissioner, M. Chodacki, leader of the Danzig Senate, Herr Greiser, and the League Commissioner, Dr. Burckhardt, discussed the status of Danzig, on which a deadlock is reported. The inter-Parliamentary Congress, Which is meeting in Norway, has telegraphed to Herr Hitler a resolution urging that the Powers settle their disputes peacefully.

The British Ambassador in Berlin, Sir Nevile Henderson, is visiting Salzburg at the weekend to attend the international motor-cycle races, in which British Army teams are competing. It is officially stated that there is nothing in a suggestion that he has gone to Salzburg in order to meet the German Foreign Minister, Herr yon Ribbentrop.
