POLAND'S ATTITUDE STIFFENS

LONDON, May 2

It is believed that Poland has decided not only to resist Germany's demands, but also to make counterproposals regarding Danzig. A full meeting of the Lower House has been called for Friday, when Colonel Beck, the Foreign Minister, will make a statement on Poland's attitude towards Germany. At the same time the Polish representative in Berlin will hand over the Polish reply to the German memorandum, thus following the German example established at the time of Herr Hitler's speech.

The Warsaw correspondent of the British United Press states that symptomatic of Poland's stiffened attitude to Germany is a decision by Polish retail newspaper sellers not to circulate German newspapers on the ground that they are publishing improper articles about Poland. Reports from Warsaw that Poland has decided to copy German diplomatic methods by demanding a Polish protectorate over Danzig have infuriated the German Press, which declares that this is grotesque, because Danzig is a German city.

It is reported from Danzig that bombs were thrown yesterday at Polish Customs officers' lodgings in the Free City. One bomb, which did not explode, was of a German military type.
