WOMEN OWNERS' TRIUMPH

The English Derby was run in brilliant sunshine and resulted in a win, appropriately enough, for Mid-day Sun, who came with an overpowering run at the finish. The race resulted: DERBY STAKES, a sweepstakes with £3000 added; second 10 per cent., and third 5 per cent, of the whole stakes; for three-year-old colts and fillies; colts 9.0, fillies 8.9; li miles and 5 yards. There we're many delays at.. the start but ultimately it was a' perfect dispatch. Renardo led at the half mile from .Fairford,.Goya II being prominent. Fairford was in front at Tattenham corner, Goya II being handy and Cash Book was improving his position rapidly. Goya II was ahead at the three furlongs, with Le Grand Due coming up. Cash Cook was buffeted and fell back.

Then-Mid-day Sun, in a dazzling run, wore down the blanketed bunch of seven horses, and stood off Sandsp'rite's challenge. Le Grand Due, though he had the rails running, was unable to make any impression on the two outsiders.

This is the first time women owners have been first and second. /

There was bright, sunny weather, the track being hard. There was an immense crowd.
