Perry (Britain), who retained the American singles championship by beating Wilmer Allison (U.S.A.), 6-4, 6-3, 3-6, 1-6, 8-6, is tho first Englishman twieo to win the American championship. He won only after being .turned back three times at match point by the courageous Allison.

Perry is also the first player to have gained in one year Wimbledon, American, and Australian championships.
