OFFER FROM AMERICA (From "The Post's" Representative.) LONDON, 27th July. : Sir Hugo Cunliffe-Owen recently received (and refused) an offer from America ot £100,000 for his Derby winner Felstead. Sir Hugo has decided to run the horse in the St. Leger. , .. „. "Of course I will not sell, said sir Hugo to a "Sporting Life" representative, when confirming the report of his refusal. He does not intend to part with his iavourito yet—i£ ever. Felstead will probably take his chance in the St. Leger, and he may have a race before the Doncaster "classic" conies along. ', He is to remain in training next year as well, and before going to the stud will probably endeavour to lift the Gold Gup (Ascot). ■ -'The highest price ever paid for a racehorse was the £60,000 which Sir H. Mal-laby-Deeley gave for Call Boy on the death of Mr. Frank Ourzon. The Aga Khan offered Sir John Ruthevford £100,000 for his St. Leger and Gold Cup winner, Solario, but this offer was also turned down. Amongst the champions of the lurt that fetched small fortunes were Papyrus (winner of the 1923 Derby), who made £35,000; Tracery, £53,000; Cyllene, £39,----375; Flying Fox, £39,375; Diamond Jubilee, £33,075; Prince Palatine,. £40,000; Fiterari (the Grand Prix de Paris winner), £41,600; Ormonde (in America), £31,250; and Sceptre, £25,000. On the other hand, many horses that cost almost as much never did anything worthy of note during their Turf careers. Feridoon, the colt by Hurry On—Ecurie, for which the Aga Khan paid the record price of 17,000 guineas as a yearling, is now a three-year-old, but has never'run;, and has recently been sent to France.
