DEPARTURES. November 20—Wainui, s.s. (noon), 884 tons, ' Sewell, for Picton THE SOUNDS SERVICE. A conference of shipping men representative of the Sounds district met at Havelock last week to discuss the question of an improved steamship service between Havelock, Pelorus Sound, and Wellington. The Chairman (Mr. 11. M. Reader) stated that Captain Nalder, of the auxiliary scow Kohi, entertained-the Idea of obtaining a new boat of the most up-to-date type from England for next season. This new vessel would be fitted with Diesel engines and would have a capacity of 100 tons of cargo and 25 passengers; -would draw seven feet of water, and would be capable of mailing the trip from Wellington to Havelock in seven hours. The idea was received favourahly, and a committee was set up to consider the matter. . THE OTAKI. , The liner Otaki arrived at New Plymouth yesterday from Southern ports to discharge New York cargo. The vessel is to leave New Plymouth on Wednesday for Sydney to complete discharge. WITH NEW YORK CARGO. The Federal Line advises that the steamer City of Newcastle sailed from New York i:i 6th November, and Philadelphia on 10th, November, with cargo for discbarge at Auckland, Wellington, Lyttelton, Uunedin, ana Australian ports. She is due at Auckland on 10th December, and at Wellington about 17th December. WAINUI'S SAILING. Till further notice, the Union Company's steamer Wainui is to leave Picton at noon m Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday for Wellington. She will sail from Wellington at noon on Monday, Wednesday; and Friday for Picton. ARAWA, FROM HOME. The next S.B. and A. passenger liner to leave ' Home will be the Arawa, which is scheduled to sail from Southampton on 14th. December for New Zealand ports. She is expected on the New Zealand coast about 21st Jauary. FOR SOUTHAMPTON, VIA PANAMA. The New Zealand Shipping Company's liner Ruahine, at present. loading for Home at - Wellington, is to leave here at 5 p.m. 'on Wednesday next for Southampton and London, via Panama. Passengers are required tot embark by 4 p.m. on Wednesday. -, ; The Wanaka is to leave Wellington this evening for Auckland. The Kahika is due at Wellington to-morrow morning from New Plymouth, and will sail to-morrow for Dunedin, Oamaru and Timaru. The Corinna loads at Wellington to-day for New Plymouth./ The Ngahere should arrive at 'Wellington early this week or Greymouth with a cargo of coal. The Ngakuta was loading coal at Greymouth to-day for Lyttelton. The Kurow was expected to leave Auckland to-day for Wellington. She is due, here on Wednesday, and will sail on Thursday for Lyttelton, Dunedin, and Bluff. The Wingatui, which arrived- at Auckland on Sunday, is to leave there about the middle of this week for Wellington, Dunedin, Oaniaru and'Timaru, BY TELEGRAPH. ADELAIDE, 20th November.
