OBITUARY
KB. W. B. SCANDRETT.
'A Press Association message from Bhvercargill to-day announces the death on Sunday of Mr. W. B. Scandrett, who was six times Mayor of Invercargill. Mr.■.Scandrett, who was 77 years of age, wis born in.London, and arrived in Dunediri in 1858. Four years later he settled in Invercargill, where he has ever aince had his home. Mr. Scandrett was Town Clerk of Invercargill from 1871 to 1893, when he' resigned to begin business on; 'his own account. He served as a councillor, and in 1895. was first elected Mayor. "Ho. was an enthusiastic voluntesifj was captain of the Invercargill Rifle Volunteer Corps in 1880, and was promoted major in 1885. He was a director of'several public companies, and was a prominent Oddfellow and Mason.
