Inspector Cullen lias received a tolegram from Port Albert atating that Robert Walker was killed at the Topuni sawmill by being caught in the belting of the machinery. The Inspector baa also received word from Warkworth that William Dawson Birdaad wo* accidentally killed at Dacre's claim through a fall from a horse. AUCKLAND, This Day. Mr. George Twidle, aged 47, son of Mr. George Twidle of Pukekohe, .vas bitten by a katipo spider on. September 16. His arm swelled, and he suffered groat pain till Saturday last, when be died. He leaves a widow and several children. NEW PLYMOUTH; This Day. The body of , an elderly man named Lawrie was found in the tVaitrara river this morning. Deceased came from Auckland about aix weeks ago, and had been mining since 13th instant.
Shortly before 9 o'clock this morning two young lads, sons of Mr. C. Webley of Petone, were experimenting in tlio manufacture of acetyhno gas, their generator being made out of two keroß?it> tins, whom an explosion took place by which the younger, a lad of ton years of age, was struck under the jaw by a piece of tin, sustaining a severe laceration. Dr. Ross attended and stitched up the wound, eight stitches being required. Mr. R. H. Skipwith, well - known in iracing circles, was thrown from \is horse when riding to the training ground outside Napier, and is now in the Hospital in the latter town suffering from a bad fracture of tho skull.
