Tho public of Wellington will no donbt remember tho recent trouble in the Seamen's Union, in which tho William Jones abovementioned was a conspicuous factor, aud during tho months of July and August, 1898, a ballot was taken amongst the members of tho Federated Seamen's Union iv New Zealand to decide whether this W, Jones sborld retain tho Secretaryship of the Wellington, Branch or otherwise. That ballot resulted in 374 of a majority of members boing in favour of his vacating the position. The resulb was communicated to W. Jones, but he declined to give effect to tho opinion eiprosKod in the ballot, which resulted in tho whole of the Federated Seamen's Unions in Australasia arriving at tho following decision, which appeared in the N.Z.
