Otaki, 2Sth November, 1899. THE ELECTORS OF WELLINGTON SUBURBS. . IN accordance with the pledge I gave you ab my first meeting I have pleasure in informing you that I shall vigorously prosecute my campaign to tho polling-day, notwithstanding tho fact that the Government havo decided apparently to support Mr. Wilford as their candidate. The following extract from a leading article of the I*lew Zealand Times of 7th Soptembor, 1899, was ovidently prophetic: — " So far as " present indications go, Mr. Kirk's can- " didaturo will bo acceptable to the Liberal " section of tho constituency, and if ho " personally commands confidence as a man " of firmness and principle he will receive '•large support It is possible, however, " that the Liberals of the Suburbs may de- " mand a stronger Party man, and it is " understood that there is one such ready "to appear if Ministerial MONEY AND "INFLUENCE ARE FORTHCOMING 't ON HIS BEHALF." You may roly that my political views are not to be affected by any action of the Government. I have supported the Liberal Government in the past because I approved of its policy. Tho in-dividual actions of Ministers towards me will not disturb my political convictions based upon well-defined principles. I appeal for the support of all true Liberals who value independence of thought and action and straightforward conduct in public men, and are of opinion that their representative should not be dependent on Ministerial SUPPORT for a seat in Parliament. Yours very faithfully, R. CLEMENT KIRK. SUBURBS ELECTION. VOTE FOR NEWMAN. POLL EARLY. FEDERATED SEAMEN'S UNION OF NEW ZEALAND. HEAD OFFICE, DUNEDIN.
