THE CITY OF DUNEDIN.

The following is addressed 10 the Editor of the Canterbury Press ;—; — Dear Sir— As the fate of the steamer City of Dunedin is of ao much interest to many others besides myself, I take permission to acquaint you for general information that overy effort is being made that can possibly suggei itself to ascertain the cause of the mysterioi disappearance of this boat ; but everything, I regret to say, leads to the c nviclion that she must have struck on one of those many rocks extending out into the Straits from Cape Terawiti, and that with such force as to cause her to sink instantly. Various portions of her wreck have been washed on shore, but up to this time, no bodies. The authorities litre evince every syr • pathy towards those interested in the fate of this unfortunate steamer. The Sandfly has again been despatched to cruise along the shores on both sides Of the Straits. My companion in trouble, Mr. Josep'i Bewick, is with the Sandfly, and I am doing ail I can here and in (he neighbourhood to collect intelligence ; but, ala«, there does not appear a doubt, as to all on board being lost.
