DONCASTER ST. LEGER.
"THE TRIPLE CROWN" WINNER,
JPEB PBEBS ASSOCIATION.—COPYBIGHT, J
{Received September 10, 10.10 a.m.) London, September 9. At the Doncaster meeting to-day the race for the St. Leger resulted as follows :— Sir F Johnstone's br o Common, by Isonomy-Thistle, 9sb.. .. .. 1 !Mons. E. Blanc's b c Reverend, by Energy —Keveuee, 9st.. •• •• 2 Colonel North's St. Simon of the Rock, by St. Simon-Blue Rook 9at ... 3 iThe winner has justified the coniiaenoe reposed in him by his backers, and has eeoured what is known as »The Triple Crown" (Two Thousand Guineas, Derby and St Leser) Common started at sto 4 on, and repeated the performances of four by-gone cracks—West Australian, Shotover, Gladiateur, and Lord Lyon-each of whom rplaced the "triple crown to-their credit when on the turf. It is not long since the Owners of Common refused £20,000 for him. They did not win much over his De«-by victory but have no doubt eoooped a big tjool on this occasion. Reverend, the Second horse, was backed by his •owner recently to win him £36 000 beside the stake. Gouverneur (by Energy-Gladia), who is in the same etablfae Reverend, did not get a place, although he ran a good race in the Great Eclipse" Stakes, run at Sandown Park, when Jβ played second fiddle to Surefoot, Common being third. This is Common's only defeat this season. He never ran as a two-vear-old Yesterday's race makes the one hundred and sixteenth St. Leger that has been run, and it is thirteen years since a French bred horse won it.]
