ELEGANT SUMMER GOWNS.

A clear white muslin had the skirt ornamented with black lace insertion arranged in the form of huge Louis XVL knots. The same idea was carried out on the large puff of the sleeves, a wide corselet belt of yellow satin went round the waist, and the raff was of the same, very full at the back. With this was worn a pale pink* straw hat, almost hidden with a wreath of crushed shaded pink roses and black aigrette. A most elegant and elaborate dress was of mauve taffetas covered with flounces of Valenciennes lace up to the waist. The lace was about five inches wide and had a kind of open lace heading that made the lace fall well, and under each row of lace was a pleating of mauve net to keep it from falling flat. The bodice was covered with lace laid on fiat, and. the sleeves were valenciennes and mauve net mixed at the top, and tbe lace ' tight over mauve from the elbow to wrist, a good deal .of mauve net and lace round the neck; the capote worn with this secured a wreath of shaded mauve poppies close together with aigrette of mauve irises, and just a pink flower on one side to enliven the sameness of the mauve. It was a char_oing costume. A very light and transparent linen of a grey shade, with insertion of the same shade, let in in strips, was made up over pale apple «r.en. aud finished with pink satin waist*

belt and collar. Another dust _rey linen had wide black lace insertion laid on flat on the skirt in a vandyked pattern ; the same lace arranged on the bodice in plain stripes. A pale straw coloured linen had a corselet belt ot mauve chine silk, some of the same silk, mixed straw chiffon, formed a ruff or rnche round the neck ; with this was worn a black rice hat, heavily trimmed with flowers and tulle. A blue foulard with large white pattern, had the bodice covered with a guipure bolero, the waist corselet was white satin, the neck band also ; with this was %vorn a black hat and feathers. Several black foulards, with large white patterns in the same style, looked well, made up with white lace on the bodices.
