NOMINATIONS.

m [Bt T—_«Q—APH.j ASHBURTON. The nomination of candidates for the Ashburton seat took place at the Courthouse at noon to-day. The proceedings were of a noisy and somewhat unique character, but the greatest good humor prevailed. The proposer of each.candidate showing an unusual amount of diffidence, lots were drawn for the candidate that should be first proposed. Mr W. Joseph C_aek then proposed Mr W. C. Walker, and Mr St. Hxl_ seconded the nomination. Mr J. R. C. C. Gba_am nominated Mr S. C. Jolly, and Mr Thompson seconded the nomination. Mr J. C. Wason nominated Mr J. R. C. C. Graham, and Mr W. C. Walker seconded the nomination. Mr D. Thomas nominated Mr J. C. Wason, and Mr S. B. Nelson seconded the nomination. A show of hands resulted as follows:— Walker, 120 ; Jolly, 58 ; Graham, 2; Wason, 87. A poll was demanded on behalf of Mr Wason. GERALDINE. Hon. W. Rolleston, Alfred Cox, George Bolton, and Francis Franks were nominated. The show of hands was—Bolton, 80; Cox, 66; Rolleston, 62; Franks, 14. A poll was demanded. MOERaKI. Messrs John McEenzie and Charles Haynes were nominated. The show of hands was in favor of Mr McEenzie. TIMARU. Messrs R. ■Turnbull aud E. G. Kerr were nominated for the House of Representatives to-day. There'was great excitement and a large crowd. The candidates made long speeches. The show of hands was in favor of Mr Turnbull, and a poll was demanded. WAIKOUAITI. Messrs James Green, J. C. Buckland and Arkle were nominated. AWARUA. Mr J. P. Joyce, the late member, and Messrs J. L. McDonald, J. N. Mitchell, A. Kinross, and Thos. Hodgkinson were nominated. The proceedings lasted two hours and a half. The show of hands resulted— Joyce, 15; J. H. McDonald, 9; Mitchell, 5; Kinross, 3; Hodgkinson, 1. TARANAKI. The nominations for Taranaki are— Messrs R. Trimble, T. Bayley, and J. Colesby. NEW PLYMOUTH. The nominations for the town of New Plymouth are—Messrs T. Kelly, E. M. Smith, O. Samuel, and C. Brown. GISBORNE. Messrs E. S. Locke, W. L. Rees, F. W. Porter, and A. Graham were nominated today. WELLINGTON. The nominations for Tearo took place to-day, when the following were nominated: —Messrs C. J. Johnston, F. H. Fraser, J. O'Shea, E. Shaw, and J. H. Shaw. The show of hands was declared to be in favor of Mr Johnston. A poll was demanded. MASTEETON. At the nomination for Wairarapa North, Messrs George Beetham and W. W. McCardle, the show of hands was in fovor of Mr Beetham, and a. poll 'was demanded. NELSON. At the nominations for Motueka, Messrs C. Kerr and E. Hursthouse were proposed, and the show of hands was in favor of the latter. A poll was demanded. HOKITIKA. At the nominations to-day Messrs Bevan, Clarke, and Fitzgerald being nominated. The show of hand 3 was in favor of Mr and a poll was demanded. INVERCARGILL. At the nomination of candidates for Awarua to-day, the following were proP. Joyce (late member), A. Kinross, J. L. McDonald, J. W. Mitchell and T. Hodgkinson. The show of hands was in favor of Mr Joyce, and a poll was demanded.
