Election Notices. C. T. ICK, ESQ. Christehurch, Sept. 28. 1572. SIR,— We the undersigned Ratepayers of the City of Christehurch, beg that yon will allow yourself to be nominated to ml one of the vacancies caused by the retire- j mentof Messrs Anderson. Pratt, and Jarae- j son, and in the event of your accediug to our request, we pledge ourselves to use every endeavor to secure your return. We feel sure from your lengthened experience in Municipal "and Road Board affairs in a neighbouring Province, that the citizens would find in you a Councillor, who would worthily represent their interests, this experience being especially needed at the present time, when works of considerable magnitude are in progress, and require the most careful supervision. We are, Sir, Your obedient servants, W. Wilson A. J. White J. A. Bird G. Butler W. Strange W. B. Armson C. Green B. Simpson W. H. Lane w - H- Davenport C. A. Pritcbard C. Prebble D. Craig H. Moss H. Ruddenklau To Messrs WILSON, BIRD, STRANGE, GREEN, and LANE, and the other 106 Gentlemen signing the above requisition :— GENTLEMEN,— Although a colonist of fourteen years' standing, I am comparatively a new settler in Christehurch ; it is therefore the more gratifying to mc to receive so numerous and respectable a requisition asking mc to come forward as a candidate for one of the vacancies in the City Council caused by the retirement of those old and valued public servants, Messrs Anderson, Pratt, and Jameson. I freely confess I feel somewhat diffident, knowing well that whoever is elected to that responsible position at this particular time and coming after such able and experienced Councillors, will be liable to severe criticism and unfavorable comparisons ; however, in ' accepting your requisition, perhaps I may bo permitted to say, in justice to myself, for what may appear to some rather a bold step on mv part, that I am not altogether unacquainted with public business, having been * elected for five years in succession chairman 5 of two important district Road Boards in - Otago. I was also a member of Town Council and chairman of a district school committee all of which offices I resigned when I - came to Christehurch, over two years ago. I 1 mention this only because lam a stranger to great numbers of the ratepayers, and it is only just to them that, whoever aspires to the f honorable position of Councillor for the City - of Christehurch, should possess some knowT ledge and experience of public affairs. I will only add that should I be elected, it will be my endeavor to discharge my duty r honestly and faithfully to all parts of the 3 city. lam, Gentlemen, Tour obedient servant, C. T. ICK. Christehurch, Sept. 28, 1872. 9-30 1884
