Mr H. J. Bickers' s tender has been accepted for ths painting of Trinity Church. Mr Andrew Gray, of Wellington, inserts in to-day's issue a notice to polioy holders in American Insurance Companies. The s.s. Pingal leaves for Mercury Bay to-morrow morning with a shipment of fat cattle consigned by Messrs Brown Bros. The s.s. Waiotahi, after having been bar-bound at Opotiki for a few days, managed to get out yesterday morning and proceeded to Auoklind direct. Now that the fruit season is at hand Messrs Mann and Co. advertise that they have in stook enamelled iron preserving pans and preserving sugar. Captain Edwin wires to-day :— Moderate to stong easterly winds; glass fall; tides high, sea easterly swell ; rain probable after 24 hours from now. Messrs C. F. Spooner and Co., auctioneers of this town, have opened np a similar branch in Waibi, when they will conduct weekly sales of fruit, poultry, etc. The Mount is attaining greater popularity than ever this year, as a holiday resort and on Saturday night the population residing there in houses and tents, must have numbered close on fifty, many of whom are staying there for various periods from a day or two, up to two or three weeks, for the pleasures of sea bathing, fresh air and the general enjoyment of camp life in beautiful surroundings. At the Police Court this morning, before the Rev. Wm- Barrett and Mr T. E. Price, Justices, two first offenders were fined 5/- each and oosts for being drunk. Two other persons were charged with breaches of the Borough bye-laws, by discharging firearms within the Borough, a fine of 10/- and costs was inflicted against one, whilst the other was convicted and ordered to pay Court costs. y The Victualling Store officer of H.M. Navy, Sydney, invites tenders for the supply of fresh provisions to H.M. ships at Tauranga during the twelve months commencing Ist April next. A relative who was coming along with him went back to Mr Wesley's residence, when the latter harnessed up and conveyed the injured man to town, when his injuries were attended to by Dr Brown. The marriage of the Hon. Trevoi Ogilvie- Grant, youngest son of the late Earl of Seafield, to Miss HardyJohnston, of Christohurob, was celebrated a few days ago. The Dowager of Seafield and hei fm. Uy resided in Tauranga for some time a few years ago, and during her residence she was deeply interested in charitable and religious work. Her eldest son, the present Earl of Seafield, married Miss Townsend, of Christchuroh. The Hon. Trevor and Mrs Ogilrie-Grant intend to make their home in Wellington. From the report in files of the London Times just to hand, of the charges against E. H. Liviogton, formerly of Te Puke, it appears that accused was charged as 'Ernest Henry Lavington. alias Robert King, 28, of no -fixed address,' and tbnt he was first accused of- having unlawfully obtained credit to tha amount of £7,594, 3s 6d under false pretences ; he was then further charged with forging and uttering a request for procuring the credit in question. Accused defended bis action by saying he had a letter from Mr King asking him if he had come across anything to suit him in bia business, which he interpreted to mean that he could buy anything out of which b« oould make a profit. The Lord Mayor committed him for trial.
