HINTS TO SPORTSMEN

1. Never carry your gun, under any circumstances, with the hammer down on the cap. 2. Never carry it at full-cock, except you expect game to rise. 3. Never carry it with the barrel in a horizontal position. 4. Never let it be pointed toward yourself or any other persons. 5. In going through a fence, always hold it before you, as nearly perpendicular as possible, with the muzzle a little above your nead. 6. Never load one barrel when the hammer of the other is on the cap, or at full-cock. 7. Never take it home loaded, except you immediately place it under lock and key. 8. And lastly, always consider it an instrument that may take away your own life, or the life of your dearest friend, at any time, without a moment's warning ; and do not handle it as if there were no more harm to be apprehended from it than from your walking-stick or umbrella. It is stated in several -of the sportingpapers that Mr George Bryan, on behalf of Mr Lefe-vre, offered Baron Rothschild L 12,000 for Favonius, but the offer was declined. Such a chance of securing a great studhorse at a small figure has never before been afforded the breeders of Australia, and I'm particularly glad to hear that the breeders of New South Wales are taking kindly to the speculation, because if they do happen to secure him, it will be gratifying to know that he is going into good hands, though, so far r«s I am individually concerned, I would rather see the Stockwell horse remain in Victoria. . ' ' : "il'm afraid I'm sitting on your crinoline! ma'am."-', Oh ! never: mind, sir. it's of no consequence : you can't hurt it."— "No ma'am is's not that ; but the confounded thing hurls me."
