NEW ROAD SERVICE
ACTION BY RAILWAYS
THE MOTU-OISBORNE LINK O.C. GISBORNE, this day. A new road passenger service between Motu and Gisborne operated by the New Zealand Railways is replacing the rail service, handling both the passengers and freight. The service operates daily on the same schedule with the exception of Saturday, and the time-table permits the bus to connect with the GisborneWellington express.
The new service has been introduced for great economy in transport and was not started as a result of the strike, stated Mr. S. Welham, manager of the railways Napier road services. "We have been endeavouring to operate an independent passenger road service for some time and the start of this service has no connection with the strike," he added. The coach used on the service has seating capacity for 24 passengers. Normal passenger train traffic has been resumed on the GisborneNapicr line, restoring the service to the basis operating before the strike.
