The considerable interest in the election for a permanent board for the Waikato - West Coast Railway District resulted in a heavy vote, when a poll was taken yesterday for the nine seats on the board. There were two factions —one known as the " Progressive," which favours further investigation into the project with the object. of. pushing the railway through, and the other section is entirely opposed to proceeding further with the scheme. Each party put nine candidates forward.
