i • A FATAL SHOT. Fired by an Unseen Hand. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON- Sunday. News has been received tnat a man named Collinson, employed as a bushfeller, at Te Awaiti station, 30 miles from Martinborough, was shot dead on a bush track near the station, by an unseen hand, while in the company of his mate. LATER. WELLINGTON, this day. The man Len. Collinson was shot on Riddiford's station, Te Awaite. He was with a mate named Alfred William Ross, measuring up some bush which they had felled, when the tragedy occurred. It was nearly dusk on Friday night, and Ross had left his companion to cut a sapling, when he heard a report as of a shot from a gun. Looking round, he saw Collinson lying dead. A man named Dick Ellis, ahas Jimmy McKenzie, is suspected of having fired the shot, and a warrant hae been issued for his arrest. Ellis has lived a nomadic life in wild bush country near the scene of the murder, but there is no evidence that he had any animus against Collinson. The police are searching for Ellis, but, the country is extremely wild, and bushmen who know it will be required to capture him or to render aid to the police. Ellis is between 35 and 40 years of age, and it is said he is eccentric. Collinson was a remittance man of 30 years of age, and is stated to have been at one time secretary to Sir Wm. Vernon Harcourt. He came to the colony about four years ago. His father is a well-known solicitor in London, and he has a brother in Christchurch. Neither Collinson nor Ross had firearms with them. CARTERTON, this dayThe man the police are in search of in connection with the Martinborough tragedy is suspected of setting fire to a wool shed in the neighborhood. He had been dismissed from several stations, and is said to have threatened Mr Bunny, manager of Riddiford's stations, also the deceased and others. It is supposed he was in search of Mr Bunny when he met deceased- Mr Bunny had gone out to show the bushmen the work to be done in a felling contract, but was met by a station hand and returned by another route.
