SUICIDE AT MANGONUI.
(By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent,) MANGONUI, this day. On Saturday afternoon, at Cooper's Beach, Mangomu. n gum-digger named William Ribton PinkertoTi, arrived from Lake Oliia. committed suicide by catting' his throat. Deceased was a native uf Bangor. North Wales, and had been suffering from hallucina- , tions for some weeks. Acting upon in- J formation received by the police Con- j stable Henry arrested him at LakeOhiaj on Saturday morning. While on the J journey to Mangonui dec-eased was com-1 paratively quiet, but on getting a fetfj yards away from the constable, he rap-? idly dismounted, and. going into the tiJ tree, severed bis jugular vein and wind-! pipe with a penknife, which he had con-) coaled apparently in his boot. Mr Hotii' ton, M.H.R. (Acting-Coroner), held ail inquest on Sunday afternoon in till Courthouse, and the jury returned a Tw diet q£ "Suicide while temporarily insane,'' exonerating Constable Henry completely from all blame in connection with the occurrence. Deceased was a remittance man, recently from Auckland.
