■■■' From a cablegram in "the Melbourne papers I gather some additional particulars, relative bo bhe race for the Epsom Derby, won by Lord Bradford's colb Sir Hugo. The French colb, Bucentaur, made most lof the running, leading, for a mile and a quarter,. When Tabtenham corner had been rounded Sir Hugo and La Fleche challenged the leader, and Bucentaur compounding in the run home, an exciting race took place between the rai^k outsider and the favourite. Ib is stated that : a more sensational finish to the Derby has nob been witnessed since" Hermit;, with odds of 66 to 1 offered against him, won 25 years ago. The crowd lustilycried "La Fleche," while the ring, in a great state of agitation ab the splendid finish being made by the unbacked one, vociferously proclaimed the victory of " Sir Hugo," who, amidst a scene of inbense excibemenb, beat Baron Hirsch's fiUy by threo • quarters of a lengbb, Bucentaur finishing a length away third. The odds obtainable against each of the three placed horses ab bhe fall of the flag were aa follows :—ll to 10 against JL,a Fleehe ;40 to 1, Sir Hugo ; 100 to 1, Buceutaur.
