Although the French 3portsman, M. E. Blanc, made a big bid for tho Doncasber St. Leger chis year with his colt Reverend, who was backed bo win a mammoth stake, yob he was nob successful in putting down the Derby winner Common, who has now gono through the season with only one defeat opposite his name, which he meb wibh in the Eclipse Stakes Pb Sandown Park. Common's victory on Wednesday makes the litth time that the Two Thoueand, Derby and St. Leger have been carried off by the same colt, the previous winners being Wesb Australian, Gladiateur, Lord Lyon and Shotovar. A cablegram of yesterday's date states that Mr Blundell Maple has purchased Common for fifteen thousand guineas.
