THE ENGLISH TURF.-MORE JOCKEYS WARNED OFF.

Latest cablegrams from London to the Australian papers state that the Jockey Club have warned oft Samuel Loates for life, and have refused licenses to Tbomas Loates, T. J. Calder and Arthur White. The Racing Calendar of June sth also contains a notice°from the Jockey Club that all persons proved to have betted with jockeys will be warned off. Lord Durham's apoointment as steward of the Jockey Club upon Lord March s retirement eeems to have already had a good effect, and it was probably through his action that the inquiries which have resulted so disastrously for tho jockeys named were made. Lord Durham's speech afc the Gimcrack Club had the effect of bringing about suspension of Charles Wood and theChetwynd libel action, which threw •i good deal of light on turf proceedings generally. The latest batch of jockey* who have come under the ban are all well known Samuel Loates, who seems to have beon the arch offender, rode ckiefly for Mr Abington. Among Sam Loaters wins may be mentioned his ride on Harveetor, when he ran a dead heat with St. Gatioi, with Chas. Wood in the saddle, for the Derby of 1884. T. Loates rode Donovan for the Duke of Portland when he won the Derby in 1889. These fashionable jockeys have been riding for the crack stables in England, and each of them had large retaining fees.
