Our London correspondent sends us the following details of the running for the time-honoured events ot the Englishtturff f the Two Thousand and One Thousand Guineas : — THE TWO THOUSAND GUINEAS. There was no socret made about the high trial which Common won from Gone Coon and Orion at Kingsclere, in the presence of Lord Alington, the Prince of Wales, and Sir .Fredk. Johnstone. Porter told everyone that unless Gouverneur and Peter Flower were much better horses than the average classic competitors, his dark colt would about take theTwoThousand. Nevertheless the public could not stand Common. "W hoover heard of a horse with such a name winning?" asked tho superstitious, whilst experts" did not like tho colt's appearance. In couseauence, Lord Alington's representative (despite being So. 1 on the card) declined from 7 to 9 to 1 before the start. Gouverneur was "red-hot ' at 6 to 4 (taken freely) and Peter Flower found plenty of friends at threes. Then caino Orvieto at 6 to 1, Cuttlestone at 100 to 8, Cleator at 40 to 1, Ragimunde at 50 to 1, and Rousseau at 100 to 1. For half a mile the nine competitors snomed, from the stand, to race absolutely in line. Then Rousseau cracked, and at the six furlongs post the favourite proved himself a true son of the non-staying Energy by rapidly compounding. Peter Flower then raised hopes for a moment, but Lord Durham's representative was almost immediately headed by Common. George Barrett had indeed an oasy ride, for this dark son of Isonomy strode to the front without an effort, and won in a common canter by three lengths. Orvieto just defeated Peter Flower by a head for second place. Then came St. Simon of the Rock fourth, and Cuttlestone fifth. Common's Two Thousand trial was at even weights with Gone Coon, and not as wo all wero told afc a difference of 71b or lOlb. The colt won easily, but this did not make the race (on tho Hastings Plate and Craven Stakee form) seem by any means a certainty for him. THE ONE THOUSAND. Matthew Day son ran first and eecond for the One Thousand Guineas with Mimi and Melody, the favourite Siphonia just securing the third place. The winner stood at 10 to 1 when the betting opened on Friday afternoon, and wav hardly mentioned in town ; but the owner, Mr Noel Fenwick, took all tho money that could be got on in Tattorsall's ring clown to eevens. Of the dozen runners Mr Douglas Baird's Siphonia (Tom Cannon up) was a trifle more fancied than Lord Ellosmere's Belvidera, 2 to 1 being taken about one, and 5 to 2 the other. Then came Mimi at 7,Cereza at 10, and Grace Emily at 15 to 1. Bar these, long prices (20 to 40 to 1) were tendered. Mimi, who is by Barcaldine, out of a Lord Lyon mare, made all the running, and won easily by a length and a-half from tho Australian-owned Melody (by Tynedale—Glee), Siphonia a bad third. Belvidera was easily defeated by her despised stable companion Sabra, and both Cereza and Charm failed to stay. With Corstorphine coming on, Matthew Dawson holds the key to tho Oaks.
