Okmonde, the winner, Who ia trained by j. Porter, at Kingsclere, was bred by his owner, the Duke of Westminster, and only started three .times, winning on, each occasion. His first appearance was at the Newmarket Second October meeting, when he won the Post Sweepstakes of 500sovs., beating Modwenna and Warbler. He won the Criterion Stakes of 906sova. at the Houghton meeting in a canter from Oberon, Me'pbisto, and three others, and supplemented this victory by winning the Dewhurst Plate of 1602g0v5., beating Whitefriar, Murdoch, Miss Jummy, Gay Hermit, and six. others. This season, as far as we know, Ormonde's only appearance was in the Two Thousand Guineaß, which he won, defeating Minting and Mephiato. Hie chance for the. Derby ban been highly thought of throughout the winter, and he has been consistently supported. Ormonde comes of a rare racing family, his sire, Bend Or, having won the Derby of 1880 ; his grand-sire, Doncaster, the Derby of 1873 ; his great-grand-sire, Stockwell, the St. Leger of 1852; and his great-great-grand-eire, The Baron, the St. Leger of 1845. His dam, Lily Agnes, is a daughter of Macaroni and Polly Agnea.

The Bard, who ran second, was the champion two-year-old, and never tasted defeat, his winnings, in stakes amounting to the great sum,of £9,ISS 9s. He is owned by one of the cleverest racing confederacies in England.

Aocording to a cablegram received on Tuesday, the betting was :—2 to 1 Ormonde, 9 to 2 The Bard, 20 to 1 Grey Friars, 40 to 1 St. Mirin, 50 to 1 Saraband, 66 to 1 Gay Hermit. Hippona.
