ATTEMPT TO WRECK A TRAIN.
| (B\ TEl.KuliAl-li— PffESS .\SiOCATION.) 1 DUNEPW, This Diy. What appears to have been a deliberate attempt to wreck the second express -train to rnvercargill was irado -in YVednti-sday night. Just before retching a small bridge, about a mile from Waiwera, the passengers were startled by a heavy jolt. The brakes were applied, but before tbe train stopped another jolt was felt. An examination showed that the first jolt was caused by a fishplaie beibg stuck end up between two lengths of rails and the second was caused by a mile post being laid across the rails. This was jammed in the bogie wheels of the engine and it took some fifteen minutes to extricate it. Rut for the promptitude of the driver in pulling up, it is probable the second obstruction would have thrown the train off the rails. The j matter has been placed in the hands of the ) police.
